Gail Be, American, United States, 2004
This dazzling diamond, sparkling ensemble is skillfully woven from over 8,500 vintage and modern Swarovski crystal beads and gold findings. It took three people over six months to complete all the exotic pieces for this design.
The most incredibly part of this ensemble was securing the beads themselves. It took me over 15 years of diligent searching throughout Europe and the United States in order for me to assemble enough of the 20 different styles of rare and vintage beads used to create this amazing ensemble.
The fabulous base of the headpiece I purchased in the Czech Republic and it is the first soldered piece I have ever used in my designs. It was so gorgeous and the adventure I had to obtain it adds to the mystery of this design. I was literally "smuggled by armed guard " into a factory near the Polish border. I was able to witness first hand how the women actually made their famous tiaras. I then continued to embellish it with hundreds of Swarovski vintage crystals. It really helps to enhance the over all erotic look of this entire ensemble.
In my vast Swarovski collection I am fortunate enough to have amassed every conceivable color of vintage crystal that Swarovski produced before 1960. Even with all the beautiful color choices I have, the crystal aurora borealis beads in this design — their most common bead — is still my favorite.
The gorgeous super-sized necklace is the Signature jewelry piece of Gail Be Designs so it was only fitting that I create an entire ensemble to compliment her. Even though the necklace was all American, the over all effect I was looking for in this design was an alluring middle/far eastern feeling.
